Rainfall Very Occasional Rain Short Rains - regular rain but still good for activities Occasional rain & fog Rainy Season, regular heavy rain with fog in Jul, but stunning vegetation Rapidly reducing rainfall towards the end of the year
Weather description Cool Mornings with hot or warm days and clear skies - can be cold at night Cooler evenings & days with some rain most days Cool mornings but warms as sun rises Most days have rain with lots of thunderstorms, very dramatic. Good access to the Rift Valley if heat and sun are required. Cool Mornings with hot or warm days and clear skies - can be cold at night
Vegetation The bush starts to get dry & the leaves start to fall off the trees so it is easier to view game and birds Driest time of the year, river levels are low and the forest clearings are dry New leaves and shoots start to come through with the bush starting to look lush again Verdent and lush with tropical plants, thick forest vegetation and beautiful plateau plants . Abundant wild flowers; wet, misty, beautiful and in the words of the Frankfurt Zoological Society Team Leader, 'more of everything'. Green & lush after the rains. The scenery in the Forest and up on the Plateau looks stunning at this time of year.
Game Experience Best time of year Good Good Good
Bird Watching Excellent throughout the year. Rated as one of Africa's top 5 birding sites and the most significant location in Ethiopia. Numerous endemics present and seasonal migrant populations passing through, particularly waterfowl in the wet season.
Insects Very few bugs due to the montane forest altitude (2380m) and relatively cool weather - no mosquitos or malaria unless visitors wish to travel down into the Rift Valley
